Chuck Seen: Registered Architect | NCARB certified
Along with Erick, Chuck founded RS2 Architects in Wheaton in 2006.
Chuck credits his wife Beth with awakening his interest in architecture. She would drag him on architecture tours in whatever city they were visiting, as well as a bunch in Chicago. These experiences spurred him on to return to school at age 35 to get his architecture degree.
As part of his studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology in its acclaimed architecture department, Chuck spent a semester studying in Paris. During this semester the class studied in Paris, but also traveled extensively throughout Europe. It was through this travel that he formed the basis of his architectural philosophy. While looking at old and new structures throughout Europe Chuck realized that architecture embodies something beyond the superficial bricks and mortar – it can have great meaning.
It is this philosophy – that Architecture is more than a collection of architectural styles and building trends – that Chuck enjoys bringing to all his architecture projects. Each project is like embarking on a journey with clients; a journey that takes them beyond the surface of architecture. He helps them to create spaces that can hold great meaning for them. “I try to encourage clients to ask themselves not what they like or dislike, but what brings meaning into their lives. That’s where we will start working.”
Prior to starting RS2 Architects, Chuck gained valuable experience working on performing arts and educational projects at the prestigious Chicago architecture firms of Harry Weese and Associates, and Holabird and Root. With Tom Brock Architect in Wicker Park, he worked on residential and artist spaces. At Williams Architects in Carol Stream, Chuck worked on aquatic and recreational projects throughout the Chicago area.
When not working on architecture projects, Chuck can usually be found playing ball with his German Shepherd Dog Tucker, or hanging off the scaffolding that usually surrounds parts of his c1897 Victorian home in Wheaton – he is renovating one board at a time. He and his wife enjoy traveling and usually work in an architectural tour wherever they go.
